Linda A. Dimeff, PhD is the President and Chief Scientific Officer at the Evidence-Based Practice Institute, LLC, Institute Director at Portland DBT Institute, Inc., and Adjunct Clinical Faculty in the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington. As an expert in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for multi-diagnostic, complex, difficult to treat, and often, suicidal patients, Dr. Dimeff has devoted her career to ensuring that patients who suffer from mental health problems receive evidence-based care. This central focus has led to a career of developing and empirically testing innovative technologies for disseminating DBT and other behavioral evidence-based practices (EBP). Dr. Dimeff has received over 20 federal grants to disseminate EBPs using technology. She is published widely, with over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and two books. Dr. Dimeff served as a standing member of the National Institute of Mental Health’s (NIMH) Mental Health Services Research grant review committee for four years. Dr. Dimeff’s most ambitious project to date involves developing WILLOW, a HIPAA-compliant comprehensive behavioral health learning system, designed to produce and sustain the delivery of efficient, high-quality behavioral healthcare across systems’ care pathways. With funding from the NIMH, Dr. Dimeff is currently developing a WILLOW-powered behavioral emergencies module for suicidal patients, their families, and providers in emergency departments (ED). The technology aims to improve the assessment, management, and treatment of suicidal patients, while also, training providers in suicide-specific assessment and management procedures, reducing the length of stay in EDs, and preventing unnecessary hospitalizations.
